10 Questions To Figure Out What You Really Want In Life.

We Act Out What Is Familiar, Not What We Want.
10 Questions To Figure Out What You Really Want In Life.

As human beings, we’re often on autopilot, guided by routines and habits in our daily lives. While these habits serve us well in some areas, they can also lead us away from where we want to be for more meaningful aspects of life, i.e. our families, our career, our religion, etc.

When we wake up in the morning, we instinctively freshen up and brush our teeth, make our beds, have breakfast and get changed for the day. Without “habit”, you would have to think and make a decision every day just to wake up. That’s how your brain had evolved over time to allow the simpler processes of our life become habits that are transparent to us. It just happens without much thought. In simpler mundane tasks, we want to form habits to avoid wasting additional time and “brain” power on having to think through everything.

Reflecting on my own journey, I realised that I’d been letting life happen to me for far too long. Despite outward success, I felt a lack of fulfilment and purpose. That’s when I made a conscious decision to live more intentionally—to prioritise what truly matters to me:

I wanted to live a life that is meaningful, purposeful and impactful.

What does that mean?

  • Spending meaningful time with myself, family and close friends
  • To be purposeful in my work to positively impact people’s lives and make a difference in the world
  • Leveraging technology to create a larger impact in my purposeful work.

If you find yourself craving a deeper sense of purpose and fulfilment, here are 10 questions to kickstart your journey of self-discovery:

  1. “What’s the one thing you can do today to make your future self proud?” – Oprah Winfrey
  2. “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” – Sheryl Sandberg
  3. “What’s your why?” – Simon Sinek
  4. “What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned from a failure?” – Bill Gates
  5. “What’s the one thing you wish you had started doing sooner?” – Mark Zuckerberg
  6. “What’s the one thing you wish you had more of in your life right now?” – Elon Musk
  7. “What are you most grateful for in your life right now?” – Arianna Huffington
  8. “What’s the one thing you could do today, that you’ve been putting off for a while?” – Tim Ferriss
  9. “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” – Steve Jobs
  10. “What do you want your legacy to be?” – Richard Branson

Stay tuned as I share my reflections on these questions in the upcoming posts.
