Went to Century Park this afternoon for the JZ Music Festival. It was a 2 day event (today was the 2nd day) in the park, where various musicians performed in the park and us the audience lazed around in the park. There were 3 main focus for the performances – Dance/Ensemble/DJ, Jazz and Folk/Rock & Roll. We started of at the Jazz stage where a Taiwanese band played fusion jazz, mixing Chinese instruments with traditional instruments to make jazz music. We then went to the rock and roll stage where a Raggae style jamaican band was performing and that was more energetic and fun.

Lots of food, lots of people, nice bright sunny day. It was a good day in the park.

After my very satisfying Balinese Massage at St Gregory’s Spa at Park Royal, I went roaming around for abit before finally returning home to rest. It was a hot afternoon and I walked and strolled as slowly as I could so as not to negate the effects of the massage. I had wanted a Javanese Massage, but my mum had booked something else for me … next time I guess.

Had dinner with my brother and joe as my bro and I were going for this musical-play thing at the Victoria Theatre, as part of the Singapore Arts Festival, by Ong Keng Sen / TheatreWorks, called the “awaking”.

It was a fusion style kind of theatre, where they had part of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Musicians of the Globe and the Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre coming together for a performance.

It began rather stiffly, but it eventually built up to a climax with all the 3 performing groups combining their musical talents and showcasing cross cultural fusion. It was this last bit of the performance that caught my attention and saved the entire performance to pitiful self indulgence. My brother says it best – every performance should at least have an epiphany where people realize the meaning of the performance.

Post-performance, we headed over to Fullerton, Post Bar, for a couple of drinks and had a great chat on many things, including work, life and the future.

It’s not the nice nice massage place that I went to in Shanghai, but the loud loud place in St James Power Station that is attracting all the crowd in night life.

I have been there 3 times in the last 1 month. It’s more times than I went in the entire year of 2007! 1st 2 times was so-so, cos the singers weren’t that great or rather it wasn’t to my taste. This latest trip was rather ok. Anyhow, what’s important is the company you are in.

Like even though I can go Wala Wala anytime, I choose not to go unless there is going to be that someone there too …

Anyway, Fedac taking effect very quickly and I am getting zzzz … been on anti biotics for the past 4 months on and off because of this flu, I hope it stays away from me for Good.

The 1st weekend of 2008 has gone by, too.

It was a quick and short week at the office. Trying to get into the mode for work again and slowly gaining momentum.

The weekend was a quick but fun one. Friday after work went to Zouk winebar to celebrate Shah’s bday. Quite a nice outing, with loads of alcohol … went back a little high, but still very sane.

Met up with my 10 year old classmates from JC and it has been a long time since I have seen them. Went for our first ever KTV session which was quite an interesting experience. Sang those super old songs from the 1990s and late 1980s and we realized how old we are. Also did not realize that Mr. CY actually can sing quite well, eh … which is usually the case … every KTV session always has some person who sings quite well and can sing most of the song, so will always “sing along” so that the rest don’t sound too terrible.

To a successful 2008 … Huat ah!

Hot hot day it was today …

Went off late morning for lunch at Warren Country Club. It was the quarterly meal at Yan Palace with my mum and today, my brother joined in. Phew! If not, would have to come back another round to finish my mum’s min. expenditure.

After that drop my brother back home and I got my mum to drop me off at Little India MRT, as I was running late to meet the gang at Clarke Quay.

Ok, my mistake, settler’s cafe and mind’s cafe are 2 different things, but doesn’t matter, right? We still ended up playing our board games and … haha … very revealing of character hor … Some people everything also like to chup other people … some ppl like to just do their own thing … some ppl just want money … some ppl just wriggle around … etc … =)

That was fun … so next time u can organize more lah …

Forgot to take my medicine last Thursday night. I only discovered it on Friday night. So, I continued my 2 tablet dose but .. oops … had major headache … then Saturday also took 2 tablets and had huge headache also … so today take back 1 tablet and then slowly increase again … sighs …

Ok, still keeping mum on what i’m doing, but very busy … will update more about it soon lah … at least when things are more or less settled.

3 familiar household name has just been up-seized in Tampines, Singapore.

Went to Ikea at Tampines to buy a table for a very heavy TV. Got it at ikea after much consideration, in terms of the price versus quality. I guess, the table(s) we got are sufficiently strong. Hope so!

Also popped by to Courts next door and they were huge too! 3 levels of electronics, furniture and appliances. Giant across the street was packed with people too. The huge amount of people were seen through the glass panels of the building.

Anyway, one good thing about that place, FREE Parking. One bad thing, too far.

Ate at the famous ikea restaurant, my mum had some nasi padang set (which was bad, according to her), i got the famous meatballs (too much meat for 1 person, can’t share with my mum cos’ got beef) and we shared a place of chix wings. Bumped into Grace who was with her friends. Everyone seems to be in Tampines!

Dinner at a Jap restaurant – Hakata Nihon Ryori – on Mohammed Sultan Rd. As usual most people were late. (Singaporean Trait 1) Without waiting for the final arrival of the ‘guest-of-honour’ we started our dinner. Food was average, nothing to shout about, but nonetheless decent. When the GOH finally arrived, everyone was still attempting to get that someone to foot the bill. (Singaporean Trait 2) Without luck, we paid up and left. Headed over to Cornerstone for drinks and small talk. Talk revolved around careers. (Singaporean Trait 3) After all, in no particular order, career was part of the 5 Cs coveted by most Singaporeans. Further talk was also on cash, and how to make more of it, by going for MBAs. (Singaporean Trait 4) No matter how much of it we have, it’s not enough and we can always do more with it. It’s … L… O… V… wrong … it’s C.A.S.H. Soon enough, at subsequent small talk sessions, the focus would be on Cars and Condominiums.

Singaporeans, are really true blue Singaporeans. We have a trait in us that uniquely identifies us as Singaporeans, for better or worst. Certain pov might think this absolutely hilarious, others might just think this shallow.

Anyway, it was a good evening/night and the company(s) … nothing to do with ‘company’ … was good. Everyone is still the same-old-same-old.

Thanks to my auntie for the suggestion and invitation, we went to Temasek Club for dinner and the Rock and Roll Night, with my auntie and uncle, my cousin and his gf, and my dad.

It was really RETRO night. Old songs, which I have mostly never heard, though there were a medley of Beatles songs which I knew. Those people at the club really learnt rock and roll and had all the moves. Well some of them at least, and I was so intrigued a impressed. Danced alittle with my auntie, though she forgot the moves liao, and I din know any. Maybe, I should take up lessons, haha!

As another auntie mentioned, it was a retiree’s club over there. Everyone was most probably retired already. Hence, the very RETRO night with Rock and Roll night.

Anyhow, the theme of the place was not about Singapore, but more on Asian Civilizations in Asia, consisting of South East Asia, South Asia and even Central Asia, which includes the places in the Middle East, which many people have thought to be out of Asia, but are wrong, cos’ there isn’t a continent called the Middle East.

I liked the Central Asian portion, as it was something new and the display was actually very well done. the Dubai Museum was also good, but ACM brought an even higher standard to it.

Do visit the ACM, they are located opposite Clarke Quay. Near Raffles MRT Station. Entrance for adults is $5 and for students it’s $2.50.
