Caught the movie this evening with bb and jj. The theatre was very underwhelming, small and slightly dirty, a faint glimmer of my really bad experience in Singapore at Chinatown Point many, many years ago.
The movie was sooooo Tim Burton and I loved the treatment of the entire show, it’s a dreamy, fantasticl wonderland that Alice got caught up in. Though I read the book as a child, I don’t quite recall. The movie doesn’t seem to be exactly like the book. I believe this is an Alice in a different timeframe.
Johnny Depp was great as the Mad Hatter, but Anna Hathaway was really a bit strange as the white queen. The other characters were fun and definitely added comical relief to the movie.
One strange thing about the show was how it tried to have an ending that linked to China. It appears that in the west, there is a certain obsession with China that seems to be getting stronger these few years, with evermore movies ending/linking to China. Hmm …
